Enid Adams-Surface Design Studios

"My work celebrates nature in art-to-wear signed prints and colorfield paintings. The reflective, translucent colors of my designs on silk come alive when worn, bringing dynamic grace and movement to the depictions of plants, birds and insects. I use cyanotype or blueprinting, marbling, discharge and giclee' to depict natural wonders as seen by the eyes of a passionate gardener."

Enid has been a professional artist for over 25 years. She is pictured here in her studio in the old train station in The Plains, VA (photo by Jack Kotz). Her extensive flower garden is nearby. Her wearable art is available at Allanstand, the Folk Art Center's Gallery Shop in Asheville, Colonial Williamsburg Lodge and from the artist. Past representation includes American Craft Museum NYC, the Renwick Gallery Shop of the Smithsonian, and Guild.com. She has taught workshops in marbling and painting on silk for Smithsonian RAP, Virginia Museum and affiliates, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center and many other east coast sponsors. Her articles have been published by Fiberarts and Grandiflora. Since receiving a BFA in Crafts from VA Commonwealth University, she studied at Penland, Arrowmont, Appalachian Center for Crafts, and with Parsons School of Design in Japan, and spent time as a professional garden designer. She is an inaugural juried member of Artisan Center of VA.
